FC Barcelona travel to Mallorca this Saturday evening for their La Liga debut.
Raphinha opened the scoring right at the start of the match, and Ferran Torres doubled the lead in the 23rd minute. However, this goal is causing controversy…
The reason: Martin Valjent, Mallorca’s defender, ended up on the ground, dazed, after taking the ball full in the face.
The play continued regardless on Barcelona’s side, while most of Mallorca’s players stopped. Worse, the referee even put his whistle to his mouth… but didn’t blow. Enough to confuse everyone. That’s when Ferran Torres found the back of the net… legally, since the referee hadn’t blown the whistle!
2-0 in the 23rd minute and the disaster didn’t stop there for Mallorca… who found themselves down to nine men after two red cards.
Manu Morlanes and Vedat Muriqi were both sent off within ten minutes. The latter received a red for a dangerous challenge on Joan Garcia, Barça’s goalkeeper.
The return of football, indeed.
