Michigan announces six seniors at 2025 team captains

You know the season is getting close when team captains are named, and on Thursday, Michigan football ended up choosing six captains — all seniors — entering the 2025 season.

Two of the six names already have held captain status, and were voted by their teammates to keep that role — as no surprise. Safety Rod Moore and fullback Max Bredeson will continue to serve the team as captains for the second straight year. But there are four more names who are joining them as leaders.

On defense, it’s no surprise that linebacker Ernest Hausmann ended up being named a captain, and he’s joined by edge rusher Derrick Moore, who’s entering his second year as a starter. Offensively, there are two new captains: left guard Giovanni El-Hadi, who has been spoken of about his offseason leadership all year, and tight end Marlin Klein.

There are very few that could be seen as omissions from this group, given how each has exuded leadership qualities and capabilities over the years.

Michigan doesn’t always have six captains and doesn’t always have seniors, but given how pivotal each of these new six are, it doesn’t surprise that they all earned the honor in advance of the 2025 season.
