It was a gutsy comeback for Morehead High School (Eden, N.C.) running back Trooper Wright on Friday night.
According to WFMY’s Manning Franks, Wright lost most of his left arm after an ATV accident last year. On Friday, he put on the pads against Northeast Guilford.
The game didn’t end how Morehead hoped, with a 46-0 loss. But Wright being on the field was an inspiration to his team, fans and family nonetheless.
“He doesn’t understand it, but just being on the field has been such an inspiration to so many people. He’s made it back, and I have no expectations about his performance — we’re just happy that he’s here,” his dad, Darren Wright, told Franks, reportedly fighting back tears.
Wright, a senior, started the game at linebacker, and the crowd went wild. He also plays running back.
Wright is expected to be back in action next week against Providence Grove High School.
