After a run to the College Football Playoff last season, Penn State is ready to open the 2025 season with big hopes and dreams of playing for and winning a national championship. Head coach James Franklin has arguably never had as complete a roster as he may have to start this season, the preseason hype train was chugging along all summer long. Now it is time to get the season started with a home opener against Nevada in Week 1 of the college football season.
Penn State returns many key players on both sides of the football with quarterback Drew Allar and running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen all deciding to return to the offense and Dani Dennis-Sutton and AJ Harris among the key returning starters on defense this season. Throw in rising stars like linebacker Tony Rojas and a new crop of wide receivers from the transfer portal like Trebor Pena from Syracuse and 1,000-yard receiver Devonte Ross from Troy and Penn State has many reasons to feel good about this season.
Nevada is going through a bit of a rebuilding process after a few down seasons. Second-year head coach Jeff Choate brought in a number of players from the transfer portal to provide some roster stability. While Penn State has national title aspirations in 2025, Nevada was picked to finish last in the Mountain West Conference. Opening on the road against Penn State should prove to be quite a challenge
