Nebraska moves up in ESPN’s Football Power Index

ESPN’s Football Power Index has been updated following another week of games. Nebraska has seen their analytical numbers dramatically improve since their 68-0 victory over Akron last Saturday night.

The Huskers now rank No. 5 in the Big Ten, according to the FPI, and No. 12 overall. The Huskers have been projected to have a total of 9.2 wins and have been given a 99.8% chance of becoming bowl eligible, as well as a 27.6% chance of qualifying for the College Football Playoff.

The Oregon Ducks rank No. 1 in the Big Ten and nationally, with an FPI score of 24.6 and a projected total of 10.7 wins. The Purdue Boilermakers ranked No. 18 in the conference and No. 78 in the nation, with an FPI score of -3.3.

The Football Power Index is a measure of team strength designed to be the most accurate predictor of a team’s performance for the remainder of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is.

Nebraska (2-0) will return to action next Saturday at 11 a.m. CT when they welcome Houston Christian (1-1) to Memorial Stadium. The game is expected to be the 405th consecutive home sellout.
