Michigan State’s offense held up its end of the bargain on Saturday night, but it still wasn’t enough to get a massive upset win over USC.
The Spartans trailed by only one score late in the third quarter, but USC popped in a pair of late touchdowns to pull away for the 45-31 victory over Michigan State. The Spartans trailed for most of the night, but hung with the Trojans in a losing effort.
Spartans starting quarterback Aidan Chiles had another strong performance, throwing for more than 200 yards and recording four total touchdowns in the loss. But regardless, he understands that Michigan State must improve during the upcoming bye week in order to reach their goals.
“This bye week, there is no sitting around,” Chiles said. “We just lost a football game. There is a chip on our shoulder. This team wants to win, we will do whatever it takes to win.”
With the loss, Michigan State falls to 3-1 on the year and 0-1 in Big Ten play. Following the bye week, Michigan State will head to Nebraska for another tough road test on October 4.
