F1 racer Lewis Hamilton announced the death of his dog Roscoe in an emotional Instagram post Monday. Hamilton, who adopted Roscoe in 2013, said Roscoe died Sunday after falling ill with pneumonia.
In the post, Hamilton said he was “grateful and honored” to have Roscoe as a part of his life.
“I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend. Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together.”
On Friday, Hamilton withdrew from a Pirelli tire test due to Roscoe’s illness. Hamilton explained the situation on Instagram, saying Roscoe caught pneumonia and was struggling to breathe. Doctors needed to sedate Roscoe to perform tests. During that sedation, Roscoe’s heart stopped. Doctors were able to get his heart beating again but had to place Roscoe in a coma. Hamilton remained by Roscoe’s side during the ordeal.

Roscoe was a popular figure inside — and outside — the sporting world. He had his own Instagram account, which has over a million followers. That account also confirmed Roscoe’s death Monday.
Roscoe was introduced to a wider audience outside the sports realm in 2023, when he was added as a skin in the popular video game Fortnite. Roscoe was added to the game along with Hamilton. Fans could purchase a backpack, in which they would wear Roscoe on their back. They could also purchase a surfboard glider, on which Roscoe sat on the front.
