JJ Redick gives update on Austin Reaves’ injury after Sunday’s game

After losing their first two preseason games of the 2025-26 campaign, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Golden State Warriors 126-116 on Sunday to get their first win. They looked a lot sharper and more cohesive than they did in their first two preseason contests, and Austin Reaves was arguably their best performer.

After a very efficient outing last Friday, Reaves scored 21 points on 7-of-10 field-goal shooting in just 23 minutes. He appears to be in midseason form, and his conditioning seems excellent already. He will be called upon to carry a significant portion of the load while LeBron James sits out due to sciatica.

In the third quarter of Sunday’s game, Reaves appeared to suffer an injury during a collision and had to exit the game. But Lakers coach JJ Redick didn’t sound concerned.

Los Angeles will have three more exhibition games in a space of just four days, starting on Tuesday when it takes on the Phoenix Suns. After it closes out its exhibition schedule on Friday against the Sacramento Kings, it will have three full days off before it kicks off its regular season against the Warriors on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
