Minnesota Vikings kicker Will Reichard’s first miss of the season at first appeared to be a poorly hit kick. But replays showed that the ball appeared to hit a camera cable, changing the kick’s trajectory.
Reichard’s agents and the Vikings’ front office requested that the NFL remove the field goal from the box score and record books. But even though the league admitted to the mistake, they won’t make said adjustment to Reichard’s stat line, says Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz.
Fortunately, the Vikings ended up beating the Cleveland Browns, 21-17. But at the time of the missed kick, the Vikings trailed 17-14 in the fourth quarter. That has kept the uproar from the missed call more muted than it would have otherwise been had the Vikings not scored their last-minute touchdown to secure the win.
The kick could have made the difference between the team being 2-3 and 3-2 and in the NFC North, that is everything.
