Peter Laviolette Is Not Overly Concerned About Mikko Rantanen Trade

The NHL world was put on notice as Mikko Rantanen was sent to the Carolina Hurricanes in a massive three-team trade between the Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche and Chicago Blackhawks.

A lot changes with Rantanen in Carolina and Martin Nečas in Colorado, which was a topic of conversation following the New York Rangers practice on Saturday.

Peter Laviolette acknowledged the magnitude of the deal while not diving into many specifics regarding his feelings on the matter.

“Good players changing teams,” Laviolette said about the trade. “Good players and they changed teams. We gotta worry about us and how we play the game.”

Laviolette was asked if he feels Rangers general manager Chris Drury should make some moves to bolster the roster.

The Rangers have been playing some great hockey lately and Laviolette is confident in the group he currently has.

“That thought has never entered my mind,” Laviolette said on whether the Rangers should make additional trades. “I have a group of guys that are playing really hard right now. We are doing our best to work our way up in the standings. We’ve made a little bit of headwave, but we still have a ton of work to do and we are going to focus on that.”

The Rangers are ironically set to play the Avalanche on Sunday and the Hurricanes on Tuesday. Laviolette’s strategy for these two opponents remains the same regardless of what just transpired.

“We would have faced them anyway, right? We are playing both teams right? Nothing changes, they just change uniforms,” Laviolette said.
