Justin Thomas says he’s undergone successful procedure to fix ‘disc problem,’ will miss start of 2026 PGA Tour

Justin Thomas announced that he has undergone a successful surgery to fix a disc in his spine. The 32-year-old golfer said that the procedure will keep him out through the start of the 2026 PGA Tour season, though he was unsure of an exact timeline.

In a post on social media, Thomas said that he’s been dealing with “nagging hip pain” for a few months, and that he underwent a successful microdiscectomy in New York to fix the problem on Thursday. He added that he will spend the next few weeks resting before beginning the rehabilitation process.

“Life update – I’ve had some nagging hip pain for a handful of months and after some time off and worsening symptoms, an MRI showed I had a disc problem that needed to be treated,” Thomas wrote. “I had a successful microdiscectomy performed yesterday at Hospital for Special Surgery in NY and have already been released from the hospital. I’m so grateful to the doctors and staff there for all their hard work and support.”

In the post, Thomas declined to provide a timeline for his return, stating that he wanted to return to full strength at his own pace.

“Before you ask, I’m not putting any tournament on the calendar or specific time for returning. While I will miss some events in the beginning of 2026, I want to be very smart and patient in letting my disc fully heal so it isn’t an issue again,” Thomas said.
