The first round of the FHSAA state football playoffs is in the books.
There are 16 teams left in each class, including five from the Big Bend, as they continue their road to the state championship,
As the team prepares for the second round of the playoffs, here’s what you missed from last weekend.

Three Big Bend teams eliminated in the first round
Three Big Bend teams weren’t so lucky in their playoff openers.
Wakulla, Rickards and Lincoln were one-and-done. Lincoln played on Thursday night and came up just short against Mosley, 33-30, ending its season at 6-5.
No. 6 Wakulla fell to No. 3 Bishop Kenny, 43-19. The War Eagles finished 6-5. Rickards was shut out by No. 3 Columbia, 35-0, sending the Raiders packing at 3-8.

No. 7 Godby upsets No. 2 Bay

In Class 3A. Godby’s win over No. 2 Bay was the upset of the night. The Cougars stunned the Tornadoes, 56-43.

Godby’s playmakers came to play offensively. QB Landon Dougherty threw three touchdowns while completing 11 of 15 passes for 224 yards.
Two of these touchdowns came from his go-to target, Jamarin Simmons, who had six catches for 144 yards. Running back Kamren McMillan was a workhorse on the ground as he rushed for 156 yards and three TDs on 24 carries.

Madison County, Taylor County impressive start in the rural area
Madison County football vs. Bay
Both Madison and Taylor County dominated their first-round matchup.
The Cowboys wrangled Chipley, 43-8. Madison County has now won four straight games and will be in a showdown against the undefeated Blountstown, which thumped Jay, 38-0.

This will be a rematch from last season.
In their previous meeting, the Cowboys beat down the Tigers, 43-6, which advanced them to the state semifinals and eventually won the state championship.
As for Taylor County, it took care of business against No. 13 Trenton, 28-7. The Bulldogs will host their regional finals and will take on No. 5 Pahokee.
If both Madison County and Taylor County come out victorious, the two area teams will square off in the state semifinals. The Bulldogs will be the host team.

Big Bend Teams heads to Jacksonville
Three of the five remaining Big Bend teams will be taking their trips down to Jacksonville.

No. 3 Maclay will face No. 2 Trinity Academy after beating North Florida Educational Institution, 39-18. Godby will face Bishop Kenny, and Florida High will take on Bolles after it outlasted Baldwin, 42-31.
