Urban Meyer tells Marcus Freeman why South Bend is best, not the NFL

The coaching profession is a brotherhood, as is the Notre Dame coaching tree, with more than a few legends on it.

One of them is Urban Meyer, who was a wide receivers and special teams coach for Lou Holtz from 1996 to 2000 right before his career blew up. He’s won three championships and coached in the NFL, although it did not go well, so taking this advice from him on this subject means something.

Meyer, who was speaking with Colin Howherd, gave his friend Freeman some perspective saying “You stay in college 100%. You have controllable’s in college as a head coach in the NFL I found, there’s so many uncontrollable’s … in college it’s you.”

It’s not only that, but the losing as well. Meyer said that “the Marcus I know, he can’t take losing like how I can’t take losing,” which if you didn’t know, wasn’t very well.

Meyer is letting Freeman know that the coaching grass isn’t green in the NFL, and staying in South Bend is what’s best. I think we all agree with him.
