Seahawks topple Rams in OT with massive game from Kenneth Walker III

The Seattle Seahawks walked into a massive NFC West showdown with the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night, needing someone to step up and deliver a standout performance in what is perhaps the biggest game on the regular-season schedule. Running back Kenneth Walker III ended up filling that role.

Walker, who had rushed for 779 yards and four touchdowns this season entering Thursday night’s game, had one of his top career performances of the season against the Rams. In the Thursday night clash, Walker accumulated 100 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries while adding three receptions for 64 yards.

Walker’s effort was critical in helping the Seahawks secure a 38-37 overtime victory over the Rams, boosting Seattle to a 12-3 overall record and moving them into the NFC West lead and a prime position to take the top seed in the postseason.

Walker set a personal season-high for receiving yards and had his second-best rushing performance of the year. It was also his season-high for total scrimmage yards, just his fifth game with 100-or-more scrimmage yards this season. It was also the ninth-best rushing performance in his NFL career.

The performance came after Walker had struggled to meet expectations this season for the Seahawks. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald has mentioned over the past month that Walker has been “showing he deserves more opportunities,” and it’s hard to debate that after his performance on Thursday.
