The NFL world is talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 16 win over the Detroit Lions for all the wrong reasons, as WR DK Metcalf’s physical altercation with a fan stole all the buzz from the contest. And now, we have a better idea of what prompted the incident, courtesy of the fan who was attacked.
During the Week 16 matchup, the Detroit Free Press spoke with Ryan Kennedy, the fan involved in the altercation with Metcalf, who shared what he said that triggered the crashout seen around the world — calling the Steelers wide receiver by his full name, DeKaylin Zecharius Metcalf.

“He doesn’t like his government name. I called him that and then he grabbed me and ripped my shirt,” Kennedy said via the Detroit Free Press. “I’m a little shocked. Like, everyone’s talking to me. I’m a little rattled, but I just want the Lions to win, baby.”
With around three minutes remaining in the second quarter, Metcalf was captured grabbing Kennedy, then forcefully shoving him back after the two exchanged words.
The NFL clarified that Metcalf couldn’t be ejected due to no flag being thrown, but they are investigating the incident, and he could face discipline from the league.
