Füllkrug already feels ‘at home’ at Milan after quick debut

Germany striker Niclas Füllkrug has said he already feels “at home” at AC Milan as he got his first Serie A minutes a few hours after his transfer from West Ham United was confirmed.

Füllkrug, 32, joined the Rossoneri on loan until the end of the season on Friday, with an option to make the deal permanent.

In the evening, he came on for Rafael Leao in the 69th minute of Milan’s 1-0 victory at Cagliari with which they moved to the top of the table.

“Perfect debut, perfect start to the year,” Füllkrug said post-match on Instagram.

“Absolutely honored to have played my first match right away! Already feel at home, even though the first home match is still to come – can’t wait!”

Italian media were impressed, with La Repubblica saying that Milan “finally have a true striker” and Corriere dello Sport believing that “the striker problem is about to be solved.”

Füllkrug hopes to kick-start his career again at Milan after 18 months at West Ham where he had several injury setbacks and had only 29 matches, scoring three goals.

Goos showings could also help him return into the Germany squad for this year’s World Cup. He has 24 caps and 14 goals, with his last match in June.
