André Onana reveals Arsenal, Chelsea, Nice, and Monaco approaches while at Ajax

In an interview with Le Media Carré, Manchester United’s goalkeeper André Onana (29) revealed that he was approached by Premier Leauge rivals and leading Ligue 1 sides during his time at Ajax.

Onana’s fortunes in Manchester have been mixed since he arrived from Inter Milan in 2023. The goalkeeper collected an FA cup winners medal in his first season. However, he has frequently come under criticism for costly errors, not least from the minority owner Jim Ratcliffe, who namechecked the Cameroon international in an interview as one of the players that the new regime “inherited… and have to sort that out

In this context, it could be easy to forget that the goalkeeper was widely sought after during his eight-year stay in the Netherlands and his lone season in Serie A. When asked about the clubs that had approached him while he was at Ajax, Onana told Le Media Carré, “Yes, Nice too. I had Monaco, I had Nice, I had Atlético de Madrid, I had Chelsea, Arsenal.”

André Onana on the move again?

Recent rumours in England have linked Onana with rejecting an exit from Manchester United to play his football in Saudi Arabia.
