Arizona Cardinals and 7 ‘don’t-overthink’ prospects

NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks gave seven prospects that teams shouldn’t overthink. Here is how they fit with the Cardinals.

Sometimes, in the time leading up to the NFL draft, teams can overthink some players because of physical traits or a question about the production in a player’s final season.

NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks highlighted seven prospects he believes teams shouldn’t overthink. They will be good.

Let’s see who they are and how they connect to the Arizona Cardinals.

The ‘don’t-overthink’ prospect the Cardinals won’t have a chance at

  • Michigan DT Mason Graham: Even if the Cardinals wanted him, he won’t be available. He seems like a lock for the top five.

The ‘don’t-overthink’ prospects the Cardinals would pass on

  • Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders: While Brooks is a fan of Sanders’ abilities, the Cardinals aren’t looking to replace Kyler Murray.
  • Georgia S Malaki Starks: Starks is a first-round talent. Safety is likely not viewed as a first-round position, especially when they like the safeties they have.
  • Arizona State RB Cam Skattebo: We will see where he ultimately gets drafted, but because the Cardinals have James Conner under contract two more seasons and expect 2024 third-round pick Trey Benson to be an impact player, the local star of Skattebo won’t likely be considered by the Cardinals unless he falls to Day 3 and probably not until Round 5.

The ‘don’t-think’ prospects the Cardinals could add

  • Michigan CB Will Johnson: The question about Johnson is whether his long speed is good enough to be a first-round pick. But depending on what your thought on Travis Hunter as a cornerback prospect, Johnson is the best corner in the draft. Even though the Cardinals have selected five corners in the last two drafts and three within the top 90, a team can never have too many guys who can cover.
  • Texas OT Kelvin Banks: I don’t think the Cardinals would overthink Banks. He actually fits this year and moving forward. He could play right guard in 2025 and slide over the right tackle after Jonah Williams becomes a free agent.
  • Missouri WR Luther Burden III: Burden has the playmaking skills, size and athleticism. But his production was cut nearly in half in 2024 after a great 2023, and that happened while playing with the same quarterback, a guy will likely be drafted. While it doesn’t feel like the Cardinals would draft a receiver in the first round, they definitely could do it and Burden could be the guy.
