Aston Villa ready to sell Manchester United target Ollie Watkins to fund move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson – Paper Round

Emery prepared to sell Watkins

Aston Villa could sell Ollie Watkins in order to fund a move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, according to the Mirror.

Unai Emery managed Jackson at Villarreal, and is prepared to sell Watkins, who is wanted by Manchester United and Newcastle United.

The Mirror reports: “Aston Villa boss Unai Emery wants to be reunited with Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson – and he’s prepared to sell star man Ollie Watkins to do it.

“Emery helped nurture Jackson’s career at Villarreal before he left for Villa – nine months before Chelsea came in with a successful £32 million bid.

“Now Emery is ready to test Chelsea’s resolve over the Senegal international who is also on the wanted list of Manchester United and Newcastle.

“Chelsea have been holding out for an £80 million fee for the 24-year-old, who signed an eight-year contract.

“That would mean Villa having to cash in on England striker Watkins who is already on the radar of Manchester United and Newcastle.”

Toffolo set for MLS switch

Harry Toffolo is expected to link up with Wilfried Zaha at Charlotte FC after leaving Nottingham Forest.

The 29-year-old is out of contract, and the Daily Mail believes he will move to Charlotte FC despite interest from Leicester City.

The paper explains: “Former Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo is undergoing a medical ahead of joining MLS side Charlotte FC.

“The 29-year-old, a former England U20 international, is a free agent after his contract at the City Ground ran out this summer.

“Toffolo made just seven appearances for Forest last season, including four in the Premier League, and has been looking for a new challenge.

“Leicester City were also interested in Toffolo but he has opted to go Stateside and join up with former Aston Villa boss Dean Smith.”

Koumas one of three potential Liverpool exits

Liverpool are set to have a clearout of young talent who have failed to break into the first team at Anfield.

James McConnell and Luca Stephenson, are both mentioned by the Daily Star as up for grabs, while Lewis Koumas is linked with Wrexham, amongst others.

The paper states: “Lewis Koumas, the Welsh international striker, is also drawing attention for both a loan and potential permanent transfer.

“The 19-year-old forward made a memorable debut by scoring in the FA Cup victory over Southampton in 2024, followed by six goals in 49 appearances while on loan at Stoke City in the Championship last season.

“A number of second-tier teams – Norwich City, Sheffield United, Hull City, Preston North End, Oxford and promoted pair Birmingham City and Wrexham – have all expressed their interest.

“Koumas has also attracted interest from Spanish outfit Sevilla, who narrowly escaped relegation from La Liga in the previous season.”

Rangers close in on Antman

Rangers are set to sign Finland international winger Oliver Antman from Go Ahead Eagles.

The 23-year-old is set to join Russell Martin’s side for £3 million, according to the Daily Record

The paper writes: “Rangers are on the brink of securing Oliver Antman as the club’s ninth summer signing.

“The Finland international winger has been left out of the Go Ahead Eagles squad for Sunday’s clash against PSV Eindhoven in the Johan Cruyff Shield – the winners of the Dutch league and cup winners – and is en route to Glasgow after the Ibrox side agreed a £3 million deal with his club.

“Antman will become the third winger signed after the arrivals of Djeidi Gassama and Tottenham prodigy Mikey Moore on a season-long loan deal.”
