Auburn defeats Vols in finale to win SEC baseball series

No. 11 Auburn (33-15, 13-11 SEC) won a three-game series, 2-1, at No. 6 Tennessee (37-11, 14-10 SEC). The SEC series concluded Sunday with game No. 2 resuming in the tenth inning after being in a weather delay on Saturday.

The Vols won game No. 2, 5-4 in 11 innings, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Chris Newstrom hit a walk-off RBI single in the 11th inning with Andrew Fischer scoring a winning run.

Liam Doyle served as Tennessee’s relief pitcher against Auburn when game No. 2 resumed at 1 p.m. EDT. He pitched two innings and recorded three strikeouts, while allowing one hit and two walks. Doyle totaled 34 pitches, including 18 strikes, against eight batters.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound left-handed pitcher also started the series opener on Friday before the contest was in a weather delay.

In the series opener, Doyle pitched one inning and recorded two strikeouts. He allowed one hit, one walk, two earned runs and totaled 23 pitches (12 strikes) against five batters.

Auburn won the series opener, 6-1, and the series finale, 8-1.

The Vols will next play on Tuesday against Indiana State at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. EDT (SEC Network+).
