Inter Miami is poised to host a special reunion of FC Barcelona legends, but not through a new signing; rather, it will be through an upcoming friendly match. Former Vissel Kobe midfielder and Barcelona icon, Andres Iniesta, will be in attendance courtside as Vissel Kobe takes on Inter Miami in a friendly scheduled for Thursday. This development comes in the wake of earlier rumors hinting at Miami potentially canceling the friendly due to concerns over their captain Lionel Messi‘s injury. However, the match is still on, prompting Iniesta and his family to make the trip to Tokyo to reconnect with his former teammates from both Vissel Kobe and Inter Miami.

Expressing his excitement on Instagram, Iniesta shared, “On the way to Japan! Excited to be back at such a special place for us to experience this great match.” Furthermore, in the same post featuring his family at the airport, the Barcelona legend added, “Thrilled to be able to experience a great game at a special place for our grandchildren. Looking forward to meeting up with good friends in Tokyo again,” conveying his eagerness for the reunion with former Barça icons Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.

While Iniesta may have the opportunity to reconnect with Messi and Suarez, it remains uncertain whether the two will participate in the friendly for Inter Miami. Both forwards were absent during the club’s recent victory against Hong Kong XI.

Reportedly, Leo Messi is dealing with a hamstring problem and recently underwent an MRI scan before Miami’s match against Al Nassr. Meanwhile, Suarez is known to have a chronic knee issue, although he hasn’t complained of any discomfort during his time with the Herons. Nonetheless, even if Messi and Suarez are unable to play, the upcoming Inter Miami-Vissel Kobe match is anticipated to be memorable.

Adding to the intrigue is the presence of another Barcelona veteran, Andres Iniesta, who is poised for a dual reunion. Interestingly, there were speculations that Iniesta might have reunited with his former Blaugrana teammates at Fort Lauderdale, with rumors circulating even before Suarez’s potential move.

In 2023, Iniesta left Vissel Kobe midway through the Japanese League season. With Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba subsequently joining Messi in MLS, speculation arose about Iniesta’s next move. However, in August 2023, he dismissed these rumors by signing with the UAE Pro League club Emirates on a one-year deal, with an option to extend until 2025.

While Suarez eventually completed Miami’s Barca reunion, Iniesta continued his journey with Emirates, featuring in 10 matches this season, scoring twice and providing one assist. With the veteran midfielder now 39 and approaching the twilight of his career, his future with Emirates remains uncertain. Whether he extends his contract or considers retirement remains to be seen.
