Bryan Bresee is the Saints Player of Day 90

Bresee will be a huge part of a rebuilding Saints defense.

We are nearing closer to the New Orleans Saints 2025 season with now 90 days before opening day against the Arizona Cardinals. Defensive lineman Bryan Bresee will wear No. 90 for the Saints this season. Bresee is the 15th player in franchise history to wear that number. Despite only two years in the league, he might already be the most accomplished No. 90 for the Saints. Here’s a closer look at Bresee’s background as our Saints Player of the Day.

  • Name (age): Bryan Bresee (23)
  • Hometown: Damascus, Md.
  • Position: Defensive tackle
  • Height, weight: 6-foot-5, 305 pounds
  • College: Clemson Tigers
  • Relative Athletic Score: 9.61
  • Drafted: Round 1, 29th overall in 2023 (New Orleans Saints)
  • NFL experience: 2 years
  • 2025 salary cap hit: $3,344,607

A two-time state champion at Damascus High School in Maryland, Bresee committed to Clemson despite offers from traditional SEC and Big 10 powers. He was an immediate star for the Tigers as a freshman in 2020, earning 1st Team All-ACC and ACC Freshman of the Year accolades. Bresee’s time on the field was limited in both 2021 and 2022 because of injuries, but still received 2nd Team All-ACC recognition. In 26 games with Clemson over those three years, Bresee had 9 sacks and 16 stops for loss while recording one interception.

New Orleans owned the 29th pick in Round 1 of the 2023 NFL Draft, thanks to trading the rights to former coach Sean Payton to the Denver Broncos. The Saints selected Bresee with that pick, making him the third defensive tackle selected. Bresee played in every game as a rookie, appearing in 49% (539) of the defensive snaps. He had 4.5 sacks, 13 pressures, and 7 tackles for loss while batting down 6 opposing passes.

Bresee was even better in his second season. He again appeared in all 17 contests, playing 709 defensive snaps, 60% of the total on that side of the ball. Bresee’s 7.5 sacks led all New Orleans defenders. He also added 14 QB hits, 19 pressures, and 7 tackles for loss while tipping 3 throws.

Bryan Bresee will be one of the cornerstones to the defense for new coordinator Brandon Staley. The only question is where his best fit is in Staley’s system, expected to employ more 3-4 alignments. Possessing excellent quickness and agility, Bresee will most likely be an end in 3-man fronts and move inside to tackle when the Saints play a 4-man front. Bresee has flashed All-Pro abilities. His continued development will be key for New Orleans defensive improvement this season.
