Caitlin Clark’s Fever Teammate Grabs Attention After Historic Game Resurfaces originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Life hasn’t been so great for the Indiana Fever amid Caitlin Clark’s injury spell. This team has gone 2-2 amid their star player’s injury, and they are now very much looking to get her back, potentially in their next game.
At this point in the season, it isn’t a complete surprise that the Fever roster hasn’t exactly functioned like a well-oiled machine. The front office made a lot of moves in the offseason–including bringing in Stephanie White as the team’s new head coach–and as expected, the new-look roster has needed time to adjust.
This has been the case for one of Indiana’s offseason recruits, DeWanna Bonner. The two-time WNBA champion guard-forward played the last five seasons with the Connecticut Sun, where she is coming off back-to-back All-Star campaigns.
Bonner, however, has struggled in her first season in Indiana. After averaging 15.0 points on 41.5% shooting last year, the three-time WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year’s production has dipped to 7.4 points on 33.3% after eight games played for the Fever thus far.
In her first four games, Bonner scored just 10 points combined on 2-of-16 from the field.
Bonner grabbed the attention of Fever fans on Sunday after one of her historic performances during her time in Connecticut resurfaced. In 2023, the two-time All-WNBA guard-forward went off for a career-high 41 points in a 94-77 win over the Las Vegas Aces.
To this day, Bonner is the only player in league history to record at least 40 points in a game with five or fewer free throw attempts (h/t Polymarket Hoops on X).

Bonner’s incredible stat line drew the internet’s attention as they shared their reaction to the 37-year-old’s historic offensive explosion.
“As an Fever fan, that really wants to see the best DB can offer. Is it that she just can’t adjust to this Fever pace, or is she sadly done?” a comment on X read.
“We need this Bonner,” demanded another.
“Father Time is unbeaten. Hopefully less minutes means she can light it up more,” a user wrote.
“Keep defrosting, DB! 🙏🙏🙏” a reaction read.
“We need this version of DB to show up this season,” wished a fan.
“I refuse to believe she can’t contribute,” commented another.
The good news for Bonner and the Fever is that it’s still early in the season, and there will still be ample time for her to improve and become a major contributor for the squad.
As some of the reactions above pointed out, her age is a factor as well, with Bonner now playing in her 16th season in the WNBA. Nevertheless, Fever fans remain steadfast and look forward to the day that Bonner gets her groove back.
