Chicago Bears’ Joe Thuney among PFF’s top 30 players over 30

Chicago Bears’ Joe Thuney among PFF’s top 30 players over 30

The Chicago Bears have made some big moves this offseason, but one of their biggest was the acquisition of All-Pro guard Joe Thuney, who they landed from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round pick.

Thuney hasn’t even seen the field for Chicago yet, but general manager Ryan Poles made sure to lock him down through 2027 to retain stability along the offensive line for quarterback Caleb Williams. While Thuney will turn 33 this season, he’s still regarded as one of the best players in the NFL.

Pro Football Focus’ Dalton Wasserman assembled a list of the 30 best players over 30, and it wasn’t a surprise to find Thuney among the list.

During his four seasons in Kansas City, Thuney earned the highest pass-blocking grade among qualified guards. Although his overall grade dipped slightly in 2024 due to an extended stretch at left tackle, his 90.4 pass-blocking grade as a guard would have led the NFL by a wide margin. That’s good news for his new quarterback, Caleb Williams, heading into Year 2.

Last season, Thuney started all 17 games for the Chiefs, where he even kicked over to left tackle for three contests as Kansas City dealt with injuries. He once again served as key protection for quarterback Patrick Mahomes as the Chiefs once again made a Super Bowl appearance. Thuney was named to the Pro Bowl and earned a First-Team All-Pro nod.

Thuney’s resume is quite impressive. He’s a two-time First-Team All-Pro, two-time Second-Team All-Pro, three-time Pro Bowler and four-time Super Bowl champion. He’s also one of the best guards in the entire NFL, and he’ll provide stability along the interior offensive line following a seasons where Williams was sacked a league-high 68 times.
