Colin Cowherd rips Brian Schottenheimer for backward visor

The Dallas Cowboys made one of the more surprising decisions of the offseason NFL coaching carousel cycle.

After firing coach Mike McCarthy following a disappointing 7-10 season, Dallas interviewed several candidates before ultimately opting to promote offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to replace his former boss.

It remains to be seen how the Cowboys will look on the field in Schottenheimer’s first season, but he’s already drawing the ire of Fox Sports radio and TV personality Colin Cowherd for his stylistic decisions.

Schottenheimer was sporting a backwards visor as he spoke to the media during Dallas’ training camp, and Cowherd — who is vocally critical of backwards hats — didn’t hold back.

“You know I don’t like backward hats?” Cowherd said. “What’s worse is a backward visor. That’s a two-win team. I’m taking away four wins.

“So when you sit in front of a podium, you’re representing the Cowboys, you’re representing Bank of America, you’re representing a $12 billion corporation. I think you’ve got to do better as a head coach than a visor backwards.”

Schottenheimer isn’t the first person Cowherd has criticized for wearing a backwards hat. He’s gone on similar rants previously about Carson Wentz and Baker Mayfield, the latter of which masterfully trolled him in return.

Cowherd wasn’t done with Schottenheimer there, though.

“There’s a reason that country clubs and private clubs, you have to wear collared shirts and jackets. There’s a reason for that. There’s a standard. I don’t want to look like a guy that’s here to move my couch. I want you to do better than that. That’s awful. That’s so bad.”

As a franchise that is looking for its first trip to the Super Bowl since its championship in 1996, Cowboys fans almost certainly care more about substance than style when it comes to their new head coach. But as far as first impressions go, it seems Schottenheimer made a bad one on Cowherd.
