Eli Manning offered sage advice to Jaxson Dart: ‘This is your journey’

The New York Giants are hoping that first-round pick Jaxson Dart is their quarterback of the future. So far, he’s looking like he could fulfill that destiny.

The Giants have had success in recent memory with first-round quarterbacks such as Phil Simms and Eli Manning but have also missed with players like Dave Brown and Daniel Jones.

Manning was recently asked if he would be around to offer guidance for Dart, something he has already begun to give.

“I’ve told him, hey, I’m here to help in any way. I’m a phone call away, a text away, but I’m not getting in the way,” Manning said, via CBS Sports “You got to figure out, this is your journey, this is your deal. But if there’s anything you need, happy to be here.”

Manning and Dart have common bonds Both are products out of Ole Miss and Dart attended the Manning Passing Academy as a prospect. Eli believes Dart is not going to need much help in his “journey.”

“I’ve been to some practices, and I’ve known Jaxson for the last three years, since he’s been at Ole Miss and gotten to watch his career. So I’ve been just impressed with Jaxson, because I’ve seen him get better every single year,” Manning said. “And that’s what you want your players to do, to make improvements — even though you’re playing well, not being content and wanting to make those improvements every day. So I’ve kind of seen that.

“It sounds like he’s doing that with the Giants. Every day, you’re going to learn something, and you’re going to make mistakes. That’s just part of it, but learning from those mistakes, not repeating those mistakes, and seems like he’s just trying to be there, earn the respect of his teammates and his coaches through his hard work.”

Dart has very little pressure on him heading into camp. The Giants have made sure he has a solid support structure around him, has all the tools, and is in the right environment to succeed.

Dart will not be forced into duty until he is ready as the Giants have two very capable veterans, Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, ahead of him on the depth chart. He also has three coaches guiding him in head coach Brian Daboll, offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, and position coach Shea Tierney.
