Did Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels have the best rookie season for a quarterback in NFL history? Most would say yes. Some would even say that Daniels had the best rookie season for an NFL player at any position.
Former Washington quarterback Alex Smith took it one step further, saying Daniels had the best rookie season in professional sports history.
“Jayden Daniels is obviously, I mean, this guy is…..it’s really unprecedented,” Smith said on the “Sports Seriously” podcast.
“We’ve never seen the likes of, you know, he’s the greatest rookie season, maybe in American sports history. And when you watch the tape, there was nothing fluky about it. I mean, this guy is so fundamental. He can beat you in so many ways, and most of all, from the pocket. Like, I think that’s the thing that is, so, you know, I think looking forward, I mean that’s gonna be there. That’s not going anywhere. And you combine it with his ability to run, and then, I think, his clutch gene, right? Like, I don’t think we’ve ever seen a rookie have that many fourth-quarter comebacks, clutch moments, throws, and, I mean, certainly to take them to the NFC championship game, it was crazy. So, obviously huge expectations for him, right, like they’ve earned those. But I’m excited, I think like all Commanders’ fans to see what they do here in year two of this regime.”
That’s super high praise from Smith, a former No. 1 overall pick who played 16 NFL seasons, including the final three in Washington, and is now one of the game’s top analysts.
So, for those who think Daniels will regress in 2025, think again.
