Treylon Burks has been a giant disappointment since being drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft.
2024 was just a continuation for Burks, who has been plagued by injuries and ineffectiveness since entering the league. The wide receiver tore his ACL during the season and according to the Titans, he may not be ready until the start of the regular season.
Head coach Brian Callahan spoke about Burks and his injury at the NFL Owners Meeting.
“Trey did some good things; I’d like to see more from him,” Callahan said. “He’ll have an opportunity like everyone else, but again, it’s a position right now that we need the guys to step up in.”
Callahan is not joking, as the Titans receiving corps is a giant question mark behind Calvin Ridley. Free-agent acquisition Van Jefferson should help, but other than that it’s a mix of unknown commodities.
If Burks can turn the corner and perform up to the standards of his draft pedigree, the Titans could get a boost. So far, he hasn’t come close to that level of performance, recording only 53 catches for 699 yards and one touchdown in his three-year career.
After watching Nick Westbrook-Ikhine depart for the Miami Dolphins and not re-signing Tyler Boyd, the Titans enter the draft with a lot of holes left to fill on their roster, and wide receiver has to be near the top of their list. What they do could eventually impact Burks, who should return to the field in 2025. After listening to Callahan, Burke’s role, if any, will be completely up to him.
