Ja’Marr Chase suspension appeal: Will Bengals’ star WR face Patriots?

The one-game suspension handed down to Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has been upheld. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, hearing officer Jordy Nelson, who was appointed by the NFL and NFLPA, listened to Chase’s appeal and decided to keep the original decision intact.

That means the All-Pro wide receiver will miss Sunday’s Week 12 game against the New England Patriots, along with forfeiting $507,156 due to the suspension.

The suspension was handed down after Chase was captured on video spitting on Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey in last week’s game. Ramsey was ejected from the game after grabbing Chase’s facemask and throwing a punch. In a post-game media scrum, Ramsey claimed that Chase spitting on him provoked the physical reaction on the football field.

Chase vehemently denied the incident to reporters, but the video told a completely different story.

Losing Chase is a tough blow to the Bengals, who are already playing without quarterback Joe Burrow. Their star pass rusher, Trey Hendrickson, is also doubtful to play in Sunday’s game.

So the Bengals could be without their best offensive and defensive players against a red-hot Patriots team.
