Despite a monumental second half collapse in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Knicks, the Boston Celtics are not hitting the panic button yet. In a game where their largest lead was 20 points, the Celtics went ice cold shooting the basketball, and allowed New York to get back into the game, eventually defeating Boston in overtime.
The biggest narrative of the Game 1 loss has been the Celtics inability to have efficient shooting, but the tone from one of the big stars on the team is one that will not be held back by the loss. Jaylen Brown spoke to the media in his postgame press conference spoke about how the team’s mindset has to be one of short memory and move on quickly from the ugly collapse they had against the Knicks.
“We’re just looking forward to Game 2, obviously it stings. We feel like we let our home crowd down, but we’re looking forward to Game 2,” Brown told reporters after the loss, adding there is plenty to takeaway from the game. “You take a look at the game and you learn what you can learn from it. Obviously we had a historic night of missed 3-pointers, we’ll take a look and see what the energy was. In reality you have to have a short term, throw it all away, get ready for Game 2. You don’t have time to let stuff carry over, you make adjustments, you come ready to play on our home floor.”
The confidence and focus of the Celtics’ top stars has clearly not been broken after the loss, but they’ll have to put the team on their back and carry the load as they look to even the series at one game a piece on Wednesday night.
