Jets, Aaron Rodgers discussing QB’s future with decision possible this week: report

The Jets and Aaron Rodgers are discussing the quarterback’s future, and a decision on the 41-year-old’s status with the team for the 2025 season could arrive as early as this week, according to a report Sunday by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.

“If Rodgers stays, he’d almost surely have to take a pay cut from his scheduled 2025 base salary of $37.5 million,” Pelissero and Rapoport wrote. “… Rodgers likely also needs to commit to being with the Jets during the offseason program to learn a new system under first-time offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, something that would benefit all parties.”

In 17 games this past season, his first full year as Gang Green’s starter, Rodgers completed 368 of 584 passes for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. He added 107 rushing yards on 22 attempts.

The Jets have a new regime in place, and they were asked about Rodgers during their introductory news conference Jan. 27.

“I know he has his process in the offseason that he goes through, and we have ours,” said New York general manager Darren Mougey. “That day is going to come. We don’t have a timeline on it yet, but I’m certainly looking forward to it.”

“We’ve already texted Aaron,” added Jets coach Aaron Glenn. “Me and Mouge, we’re going to sit down and watch every game tape there is, and then we’ll look at the whole roster.”
