John Cena, Travis Scott and the weirdest WrestleMania main event

WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas was an uneven two-night spectacle, with several memorable moments and excellent matches mixed with the type of fare you’d expect to see on a mid-May episode of Raw.

Still, the Seth Rollins-Roman Reigns-CM Punk triple threat match delivered a stunning and excellent finish to Night 1, and the card on Night 2 delivered with nearly every match. Iyo Sky retained her Women’s World Championship in a five-star thriller, Dominik Mysterio captured the Intercontinental title, and Becky Lynch made a surprise return after a long hiatus. We even got to see Stone Cold Steve Austin crash an ATV into the ringside barrier.

That set the stage for what was supposed to be a historic match. John Cena, in his final WrestleMania, aiming to break Ric Flair’s World Championship record with a 17th reign if he could defeat Cody Rhodes.

What followed was a fairly standard late-career Cena match with a bevy of false finishes. With every kick out at two, fans were waiting for the inevitable swerve. Would The Rock’s music hit? Which WWE legend from Cena’s past would show up to sow chaos?

As it turns out, that agent of mayhem was…. Travis Scott?

Scott, the music superstar who provided the theme for WrestleMania, made a full, drawn out entrance to the ring while Cena sat and chuckled inside the squared circle. Surely there was more to this, right?

But no, Travis Scott was the big surprise in the main event of WrestleMania. He came to the ring carrying a hardcore championship belt and eventually ate a Cross Rhodes from Cody Rhodes. Cena would go on to level Rhodes with the WWE Championship and pin him to score what, in theory, was the biggest win of his career.

WWE fans were mystified, to say the least. Just one year ago, we saw the emotional culmination of the Cody Rhodes-Roman Reigns storyline, complete with involvement from Seth Rollins, The Rock and The Undertaker. In 2025, we saw a three-minute Travis Scott entrance – a made-for-Tik-Tok moment on the biggest stage of the year?

Here’s what WWE fans were saying after the match:
