Lane Johnson has demonstrated the ability to adapt throughout his NFL career
Despite just turning 35 years old, Eagles All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson remains at the top of his game.
Now the longest-tenured Eagle on the roster, Johnson allowed zero sacks on 937 offensive snaps last season and is showing no signs of slowing down. However, one of his most impressive traits doesn’t get enough attention.
When speaking with reporters on Tuesday, fellow offensive lineman Jordan Mailata talked about Johnson’s ability to adapt while playing next to a different right guard every season.
“Lane does a hell of a job. Nobody ever talks about that. How many right guards has Lane played next to, and he has a stellar performance every year. If it wasn’t for Stout and Lane being able to adapt and be as great as he is, that is the reason why we’re about to fill that position [right guard].
“For instance, me and Landon, we have about 10,000 reps together. That’s a lot of reps. You know timing, you get the rhythm, you get the feel. That’s very important. I think that shows on the film. When you don’t have that synchronicity, the timing’s off, the rhythm’s off, the feel is off. For Lane, he’s able to adapt. He’s able to find that rhythm with whoever he is playing next to.”
Lane Johnson hasn’t played with the same starting right guard in consecutive seasons since 2019:
- 2024 — Mekhi Becton
- 2023 — Cam Jurgens
- 2022 — Isaac Seumalo
- 2021 — Jack Driscoll
- 2020 — Nate Herbig
- 2019 — Brandon Brooks
Lane Johnson’s elite play has earned him six Pro Bowls, two first-team All-Pro selections, and two Super Bowl titles. With the NFL announcing a new Protector of the Year award, Johnson may soon add another trophy to his resume.
