Jrue Holiday believes film will tell where things went wrong in Game 1

For the first time since he was acquired before the start of the season last year, Jrue Holiday and the Celtics are trailing in a playoff series after their collapse in Game 1 to the New York Knicks. A game headlined by the team’s 45 missed 3-point attempts, the Celtics downfall against the Knicks was a second half full of shooting woes from all over the court, while New York reversed course and had plenty of shooting success.

Last year before the 2024 season began, the Celtics acquired veteran point guard Jrue Holiday in a trade with the Portland Trailblazers, a move that was one of the most important of the season. Putting the veteran alongside Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, and Derrick White gave Boston one of the strongest starting units that would lead them to their 18th championship in franchise history. Speaking to the media after the Game 1 loss, the first time in which the team trailed in a playoff series, Holiday made it clear that the film would show them all they needed to know.

“You go to the drawing board, honestly just go to the film and see what you did,” Holiday told reporters at his locker on Monday night. “We had a great first half, we had a great two-and-a-half quarters, we can just see how eventually they creeped back in. I’m sure there’s a lot of things we can take care of, especially being up that much. If it’s rebounding, getting stops, ball pressure, or whatever it is. There’s thing we can go back and look at.”

The veterans on this Celtics team have not only had championship experience, but they’re now also showing championship strength and mentality. While some teams could see their entire playoff run doomed by a collapse similar to what Boston had in Game 1, the leaders on the Celtics seem hellbent on making sure they put the loss behind them and get down to finding solutions to get them back to their winning ways.
