Julio Jones retires after 13 NFL seasons

Julio Jones retires after 13 NFL seasons and should be headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Fourteen years after being selected sixth overall by the Atlanta Falcons, former All-Pro wide receiver Julio Jones has officially hung up his cleats. The 36-year-old announced his retirement on Friday after 13 NFL seasons, including 10 years in Atlanta.

Jones will go down as one of the greatest to ever play the position, and was arguably as good as any wide receiver in NFL history during his prime. He will finish his stellar career with 914 catches for 13,703 receiving yards and 66 touchdowns.

The seven-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro was instrumental in helping the Falcons reach the Super Bowl in 2016 and was the most dominant receiver in the league for a five-year stretch (2014-2018). The Falcons traded Jones to the Tennessee Titans in 2021 but he failed to top 500 receiving yards over his final three seasons.

He also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022 and finished his career with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.

Nonetheless, Jones should be a lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame after the heights he reached in Atlanta. His combination of size and speed made him one of the most physically imposing wide receivers this league has ever seen.
