Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on progress with WR Rashee Rice

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes addressed a pool of reporters after the first training camp practice on Tuesday at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. He addressed the team’s focus on big plays offensively and expectations for wide receiver Rashee Rice in 2025.

“Yeah, I mean you saw it at the beginning of last year with him (Rashee Rice) being in the full training camp and another year of us and our communication; it was going off to a very hot start, but he attacked the rehab process now and has came back ready to go.” said Mahomes, “And so had a good first day today; we’ll continue to work, continue to get better and better, and he’ll evolve his game to be ever better than he was at the beginning of last year.”

Rice was a full participant in practice, but disciplinary actions from the league will likely follow the sentencing he received last week from a Dallas County Judge. He faces five years’ probation and 30 days of jail time, which can be served during those five years, for his role in a multi-car crash during the 2024 offseason.

Rice has been out of action since tearing his LCL early in the 2024 season. He had led the Chiefs and was amongst the league leaders in receiving last season before his Week 4 injury against the Los Angeles Chargers.
