Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers have been one of the best teams in women's college basketball in recent years. The same could be said about Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks.
While there is respect between the two head coaches and teams, the competition is real. This offseason, Mulkey and LSU were able to steal a top talent from Staley and South Carolina.
In the transfer portal, the Tigers landed former Gamecocks' standout MiLaysia Fulwiley.
After landing Fulwiley in the portal, Mulkey sent a strong message about landing the key transfer addition.
"She’s bringing her incredible playmaking ability to Baton Rouge, standing out as one of the most electrifying talents in college basketball," Mulkey said. "Her ability to impact winning has been clear throughout her career, and we can’t wait to see her shine in purple and gold at the PMAC soon!"
Fulwiley, a 5-foot-10 guard hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, leaves a program who was in the NCAA championship game last season. The Gamecocks came up short in that game against Geno Auriemma, Paige Bueckers, and the UConn Huskies.
Throughout the course of the 2024-25 women's college basketball season, Fulwiley played in 39 games. She didn't receive any starts, but she averaged 11.7 points per game to go along with 2.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals.
In addition to her averages, the dynamic guard shot 42.6% from the floor and 25.8% from the 3-point line.
Heading to LSU, Fulwiley will look to help the Tigers get back to the national championship game. Mulkey and company finished last season with a 31-6 record and made a run to the Elite 8 in the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to the No. 1 seed UCLA Bruins.
