The Los Angeles Lakers have performed well since their three-game losing streak in late February.

The 17-time NBA champions have won four of their last five contests and will look to extend their winning streak to five on Saturday afternoon when they face the New York Knicks at Crypto.com Arena.

Unfortunately for second-year combo guard Bronny James, he received disappointing G-League news before the Lakers’ marquee showdown vs. the Jalen Brunson-led Knicks.

“Lakers have assigned guard Bronny James Jr. and forward Adou Thiero to the South Bay Lakers,” O.C. Register’s Benjamin Royer reported on X/Twitter Saturday.

James may have expected to spend a brief period in the G-League in Year 2, but it’s unlikely he anticipated he would go back and forth between the big leagues and the minor leagues the entire season.

Although James is shooting 41.4% from deep with the Lakers this year, the sample size is small (12 for 29), making it challenging to determine whether the USC product is truly progressing as a perimeter shooter.

It doesn’t help that James is only connecting on 21.2% of his long-range jumpers in the G-League thus far. At the end of the day, James hasn’t proven he’s worthy of regular playing time on JJ Redick’s 38-25 Lakers, forcing the organization to send him to the South Bay once again.
