The 2028 LA Olympics has announced its schedule, and flag football will be held from Saturday, July 15, through Saturday, July 22, at Exposition Park Stadium.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is one of the league’s faces, and the MVP could play a significant role in furthering the NFL’s flag football initiative. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts put the world on notice in an ad campaign featuring the NFL that debuted last summer. The campaign promoted the arrival of men’s and women’s flag football as an Olympic event in 2028.
It’s unclear if Hurts or Jackson will be the quarterback for Team USA in four years. Still, the newly named global flag football ambassadors could play in the Olympics and return to Philadelphia or Baltimore for training camp, thanks to the now-released eight-day schedule.
If the game were held this summer, the finale would take place on the day Baltimore veteran was supposed to report to the Under Armour Performance Center for training camp. The first Ravens practice would take place the following day on July 23. Back in May, NFL owners unanimously voted to allow players to play flag football at the Olympics.
The 2028 Summer Games will be held from July 14 to 30.
“There’s more work to be done there,” NFL executive Jeff Miller said. “It will certainly be an important topic of conversation. … I would expect it to be an engaging and robust conversation on that topic.”
With the news eliciting reactions from every corner of the NFL, we’re looking at five Ravens who would flourish as members of Team USA.
Flag Football Rules
If passed, no more than one player from each team would be permitted to participate in the 2028 Olympics, plus each team’s designated international player on his country’s team, opening the door to a juggernaut roster.
The framework would include 12-player rosters, a 50-yard field, and a 5-on-5 format without offensive or defensive lines.
QB Lamar Jackson
Jackson, the shiftiest and fastest quarterback in the NFL, would dominate as a runner and passer in this sport.
RB Keaton Mitchell
Mitchell is a dynamic dual-threat running back who could flourish in open space against less athletic competition.
WR Zay Flowers
One of the shiftiest wide receivers in the league, and a dominant player in space, Flowers’ 19 catches of 20 or more yards tied for fourth among receivers last season, and his 6.3 yards after the catch average ranked in the 85th percentile at his position. His five 100-yard games also tied for first in the NFL.
CB Nate Wiggins
Wiggins led the team in pass deflections, making his presence felt on the outside against elite opposing NFL wide receivers. Wiggins was the Ravens’ highest graded rookie and looks like a future star after recording 33 tackles while playing 15 games for the Ravens last season and starting in each of the team’s playoff games. Wiggins’s 769 snaps were the seventh most on the Ravens defense that struggled against the pass early on but improved down the stretch.
DB Kyle Hamilton
Every team needs a Swiss army knife, and Hamilton would dominate a flag football competition with his range. Hamilton played in all 17 regular-season games in 2024 and finished with 107 tackles (77 solo), including 2.0 sacks, nine pass defenses (one interception), two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. Hamilton’s 107 stops in 2024 were a career high and the second most on the Ravens behind Roquan Smith (154). Hamilton registered double-digit tackles in five regular-season games and played every single snap in nine contests.
