Fromm played well enough in a brief preseason trial last summer to stick on Detroit’s practice squad all year
On the eve of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions have opened up a roster spot by releasing a veteran. Quarterback Jake Fromm was released on Wednesday.
Fromm was signed to a reserve/future contract earlier this offseason after spending the 2024 campaign on the Lions practice squad. He joined Detroit midway through training camp last summer and impressed enough to stick around as the de facto third quarterback. The one-time Georgia Bulldogs star has bounced around a few NFL teams since being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Lions have three quarterbacks who were all above Fromm on the depth chart in Pro Bowler Jared Goff, 2023 3rd-round pick Hendon Hooker and recently signed vet Kyle Allen.
