Lions vs Eagles: Everything we know from Detroit’s 16-9 loss in Week 11

The Detroit Lions sputtered to a disappointing 16-9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on national television in Week 11. The Sunday night defensive slugfest didn’t go Detroit’s way, and the loss leaves the Lions on the outside of the playoff picture looking in with seven more games to play.

This was a tough game between NFC powerhouses, and the defenses did not disappoint. Detroit’s offense, on the other hand, had a night to forget with head coach Dan Campbell calling the plays and the Eagles defensive front winning the battles over the Lions line.

Here’s what we know in the aftermath of the Sunday night loss.

It was over when…

A controversial pass interference call on Lions CB Rock Ya-Sin that gave the Eagles a first down inside the final two minutes was the death blow, but the 16-9 final came to be thanks to a critical point earlier in the second half.

3rd quarter, Lions have 4th-and-goal from the Philadelphia 3-yard line, trailing 13-6. After a futile 3rd-down Jahmyr Gibbs run was easily stuffed, the Lions tried to throw the ball for the fourth-down conversion. Under heavy pressure up the middle, Jared Goff misfired to a well-covered Amon-Ra St. Brown. Tight end Brock Wright was wide open a few degrees of vision behind him, but the pressure kept Goff from seeing it. Even a field goal there cuts the lead and changes the momentum. It was Philadelphia’s fourth 4th-down stop of the game. They added another on the next Lions drive, too.

Top Lions highlight of the game

Jameson Williams found the afterburners on Detroit’s lone touchdown.

It was a great bright spot for Williams and one of the very few successful pass plays on the night.
