LSU baseball took the series vs. Mississippi State behind a stellar pitching performance from Anthony Eyanson and the bullpen
After winning game one on Thursday night against Mississippi State, LSU baseball clinched the series with a win on Friday night.
The first opponent LSU would face would not even be the Bulldogs, it was the weather. The game was delayed due to rain. The first pitch didn’t come until after 9 PM. That did not rain on the Tigers parade, as they came away with a 2-1 win.
Anthony Eyanson got the start on the mound and he only allowed one run on five hits, 12 strikeouts, and three walks over five full innings of work. In the bottom of the second inning, Ethan Frey drew first blood as he hit a solo homer to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Bulldogs loaded the bases against Eyanson, and a passed ball allowed a run to score to tie the game 1-1. Through four innings, both teams struggled to get the bats going, as Mississippi State and LSU each had only three hits apiece. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Luis Hernandez hit a solo shot to give the Tigers the lead once again as LSU went up 2-1.
In the top of the sixth inning, Casan Evans entered to pitch for LSU. Evans pitched the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth innings for LSU and allowed zero runs on two hits, six strikeouts, and three walks. LSU could not score any more runs but Evans’s stellar pitching outing was enough to secure a 2-1 victory and a series victory for LSU.
With the win, LSU improves to 25-3 and 6-2 in conference play. The final game of the series is scheduled to start tomorrow at 6 PM CT.
