Luther Burden gets the call from the Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears continue to add to what’s shaping up to be an explosive offense under first-year head coach Ben Johnson. After selecting Michigan tight end Colston Loveland in the first round, the Bears drafted Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III with the 39th overall pick.

Burden was one of the best available players on the board, and he fell right into Johnson’s lap near the top of the second round. Burden, who’s one of the most explosive playmakers in this draft, is the slot receiver Johnson has been waiting for in Chicago. And the NFL just let the Bears have him.

General manager Ryan Poles, head coach Ben Johnson, president/CEO Kevin Warren and wide receivers coach/assistant head coach Antwaan Randle El called Luther after he was selected in the second round. Here’s a glimpse at that moment, which included an excited Burden and a very enthusiastic Randle El.

“You sick of waiting?” Poles asks. “I’ve been waiting awhile,” Burden replies. “I know you have. We’re going to put your name in now.”

Johnson knows the Bears are getting a dog in Burden. “That’s me,” Burden says. “That’s who I am.” “Buckle it up man, we’ve got to get to work,” Johnson tells him.

As Warren is welcoming Burden to Chicago, Randle El can be seen in the background getting hyped with an arm around both Poles and Johnson. The Bears know they got a stud in Burden, who has the potenital to thrive as the slot receiver in Johnson’s offense.

“We’re going to the top of the mountain, baby,” Randle El tells Burden. “And you’re going with us.”
