Van der Poel went down after losing his balance during the first lap, before going over the top of his handlebars in a second incident which forced him to abandon the race.
However, Alpecin-Deceuninck has confirmed that he has “recovered sufficiently” to race again.
He missed the early part of his team’s Tour de France preparation camp in the Alps but instead of setting Van der Poel a revised training plan, he will instead take part in the Criterium du Dauphine.
He will be joined by team-mates Tobias Bayer, Lars Boven, Michael Gogl, Xandro Meurisse, Johan Price-Pejtersen and Gianni Vermeersch.
The warm-up race for the Tour de France will be Van der Poel’s first road race since his Classics campaign, which saw him take wins at Milano-Sanremo, E3 Saxo Classic and Paris-Roubaix.
When is the 2025 Criterium du Dauphine?
The Criterium du Dauphine starts on June 8 and runs until June 15.
The race is contested across eight stages and there will be no rest days.
