ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The hype for new Michigan football quarterback Bryce Underwood has been building and shows no signs of slowing down. But the same can also be said of second-year signal caller Jadyn Davis.
The duo are duking it out in spring ball with Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene sidelined with injury. Thus, for now, it’s been a two-quarterback race, giving each an advantage when it comes to fall camp and potentially starting at the 2025 season’s outset.
On Wednesday, both quarterbacks were lumped together when junior safety Brandyn Hillman — who is tasked with defending their passes — and he noted that both have a lot of ability, but just as importantly, both appear to be playing well beyond their ages, at least in spring ball.
“Strong arm. They’re smart. Smart guys,” Hillman said. “As a quarterback, you’ve got to be smart. I can see it. Like, both being young quarterbacks, they’re smart. Great decision-making to be this young. I ain’t going to lie. Great decision-making. I mean, I’m going against them. So, some of the stuff that I see is like, OK. So, that’s all I can say.”
Davis only has seen one snap in college, a handoff to running back Tavierre Dunlap against Northwestern that went for a touchdown. Underwood, who doesn’t turn 18 until August, has yet to take the field in a Michigan uniform in front of fans as of yet.
Either way, fans will get an opportunity to see both on April 19 in the annual spring game at The Big House.
