Mike Vrabel reacts to Cam Newton’s ‘fool’s gold’ dig at Patriots

Cam Newton’s continued skepticism of the New England Patriots made headlines last week when he claimed the team’s 9-2 run has been “fool’s gold” during an appearance on ESPN’s First Take.

The comments came after the Patriots’ lopsided Thursday night victory over the New York Jets in Week 11. Patriots coach Mike Vrabel was asked to respond when appearing on The Greg Hill Show on Monday morning.

“Nothing’s weird to me. Because people could come on the radio, you know? Whatever. It’s just things that get their attention or—we are okay with that. I promise you we were okay with anything that anybody says,” said Vrabel. “We are gonna come to work. We are gonna focus on us. We’re gonna try to improve, and we’re gonna focus on the Bengals and going on the road and trying to get our 10th win.”

Vrabel claimed the Patriots won’t be using Newton’s comments as bulletin board material, either.

“What are we gonna put Cam Newton clips up there? Nah,” Vrabel said. “We’d rather put our clips or the Bengals’ clips. I don’t think that’s even remotely close to how we should try to inspire our players to play better.”

Everyone has an opinion on the Patriots’ unexpected run this season. The team can’t control what people say about them on social media and television.

They can only control what they can control, and that’s showing up on game days, playing good football and finding ways to win.
