National media continues to shade the Giants

The NFC East is looking like a powerhouse again heading into the 2025 NFL season. Its teams include last year’s Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the conference runner-up, the Washington Commanders.

The division also contains a revitalized Dallas Cowboys team that expects to have a more explosive offense with the return of quarterback Dak Prescott and the addition of wide receiver George Pickens.

Bleacher Report recently posted in a graphic how exciting they believe the division will be this year.

But wait, aren’t there four teams in this division? Ah, they forgot the New York Giants. That might be a minor omission to some teams or fan bases but you can bet the Giants and their fans will have this on their bulletin boards this summer.

The Giants have been irrelevant for so long that the league, its pundits, and its fans have written them off. Write this down: They may be in for a rude awakening.

The Giants have been slowly building something in East Rutherford. After two years of reshuffling and calculated misses in the draft, general manager Joe Schoen has grown into the job. His last two drafts have been practically a master class. he has learned to let the other teams make the mistakes these days.

The Giants crushed the draft two weeks ago. It was hard to ignore, yet many chose to. They got perhaps the best player in the draft in Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter and then adroitly moved up to grab what could be their franchise quarterback in Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss.

Schoen also adequately filled all of the gaping holes in his roster, especially at quarterback, where he not only drafted Dart but signed veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston as free agents.

Last year, the Giants finished 3-14 but eight of those losses were by eight points or less. They only scored over 20 points in four of their 17 games. They went 3-1 in those games.

The Giants are right on the doorstep of contention. The signs are all there. Their championship formula has always been the pass rush and solid quarterback play. It looks like they got a ton better in both areas since last season.
