Nets’ Jordi Fernandez reacts to unfortunate Anthony Edwards’ injury

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets were hoping to continue their winning streak Thursday against the Minnesota Timberwolves despite dealing with a bevy of injuries to some of the best players on the team. However, speaking of injuries, Brooklyn did not make headlines for any injuries they suffered, but more because of what happened to Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards.

“I was out of bounds, trying to move out of the way. Definitely got to be faster than that, because player health is the most important thing in the game,” Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez said after Thursday’s 105-90 loss to Minnesota. Towards the end of the second quarter, Edwards took a shot in front of the Nets bench, but unfortunately landed on Fernandez’s foot, twisting his left ankle in the process.

“Next time, I just got to move faster,” Fernandez continued. “I feel like, I got kicked and then, he sprained his ankle. I couldn’t see it and I don’t have social media so you gotta tell me.” Edwards was unable to get back on the floor for the rest of the first half, but he was able to take the floor with the Timberwolves to begin the second half and he went on to finish the game with 28 points and five rebounds.

As it seemed, Edwards looked fine as he was able to play the second half without any limitations and that was in the face of the numerous double-teams that Brooklyn sent his way. While some have implied that Fernandez knew that he was standing in the way of Edwards, but after hearing what Fernandez had to say on the incident, it’s clear that Fernandez did not intend to hurt Edwards. The good news is that Edwards came away from the play without a serious injury.
