NFL world reacts to Commanders’ Week 16 performance vs. Eagles

The Washington Commanders looked like they were on the verge of delaying the Philadelphia Eagles’ winning the NFC East for at least one more day. Instead, quarterback Marcus Mariota went down on the first series of the second half, and Washington’s defense, which was solid in the first half, had no answers for Saquon Barkley, and the Eagles rolled to a 29-18 victory.

The Commanders controlled the first half, beginning with forcing a fumble on the opening kickoff. Unfortunately, Washington couldn’t convert that turnover into a touchdown; instead, it settled for three points. Philadelphia then took a 7-3 lead, but the Commanders made it 10-7 when rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt scored a touchdown.

However, in the third quarter, Mariota was injured, Washington’s defense suddenly couldn’t tackle and head coach Dan Quinn was overly conservative, punting twice in the fourth quarter near midfield with the Commanders down 11 points. The loss was symbolic of Washington’s season: mistakes, injuries and more.

During and after the game, the NFL world, including many Washington fans, sounded off on the Commanders’ latest loss, including some of Quinn’s curious decision-making in Saturday’s game.

Here are some of those reactions.
