NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Forward Pickups April 16 – The Kids – Blake, Demidov, Gauthier and Kasper – Are Alright

On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies are rostered in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues and can be selected in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games.

Jackson Blake, RW, CAR @ MTL, (8% rostered)
Blake has had a very solid rookie campaign for the 'Canes. The fourth-round pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft has emerged as a top-six asset down the stretch for Carolina. Over the last 14 games, the 21-year-old has delivered six goals and 12 points, upping his season marks to 17 markers and 17 assists in 80 contests. Blake was a Hobey Baker Award finalist last season who earned a roster spot in training camp and has improved as the season wore on.

Ivan Demidov, RW, MTL vs. CAR (11% rostered)
Demidov, the fifth overall pick in 2024 draft, had a debut t remember, notching a goal and an assist Monday. The 19-year-old had an impressive 19 goals and 49 points in 65 games for SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL this season before coming to North America. Demidov has the teams who picked second through fourth (Chicago, Anaheim and Columbus) last season questioning why they passed on the winger who has superstar talent.

Cutter Gauthier © Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images

Cutter Gauthier, LW, ANA @ WPG (12% rostered)
Gauthier has five goals in his last four games, meshing nicely with Leo Carlsson to close the season. His tally April 10 gave Gauthier 20 markers on the season to go along with 23 assists in 80 contests. Selected fifth overall in 2022 by the Flyers, Gauthier made it clear he did not want to play for Philly, who dealt him to Anaheim last season. Gauthier is part of the core in SoCal for the Ducks as a top-six winger.

Marco Kasper, C/LW, DET @ NJ (19% rostered)
Detroit has shown some signs of improvement this season with Kasper at the forefront of that list. Kasper has 18 goals and 17 assists along with 150 hits in 75 contests while centering the Red Wings' second line. Selected eighth overall in 2022, Kasper looks to have become a key part of the Winged Wheel's lineup, thriving since he was moved from wing to pivot for the red and white.

Luke Evangelista, RW, NSH vs. DAL (1% rostered)
Evangelista, like the Predators, has taken a step back this season. Unlike Nashville, who have lost eight of their last 10 games, Evangelista is closing out the season strong. Evangelista has a goal and five assists his last seven contests, giving the 22-year-old winger 10 tallies and 21 helpers in 67 appearances, down from the 16 and 23, respectively, he posted last season. He is skating as the right winger on the Predators top line.

Nils Hoglander, LW, VAN vs. LV (1% rostered)
Hoglander, after missing six games with an undisclosed injury, has returned to action on a little bit of a roll. He has a pair of goals and an assist his last five games, which qualifies as a hot streak as Hoglander has just eight tallies and 16 helpers in 71 contests on the season. Hoglander looked to have taken a step forward with 24 goals and 12 assists last season but he was not able to build on that this season. He is ending 2024-25 in a solid fashion.

Viktor Arvidsson, LW/RW, EDM @ SJ (14% rostered)
I was exceedingly praiseworthy of the Oilers' signing of Arvidsson prior to the season. He certainly has not lived up to my comments, having a rough season for Edmonton, Arvidsson, though, has tallied five times over his last nine games, giving him 15 markers on the season. On the flip side, Arvidsson has eight goals across 24 outings since his last assist, further evidencing his up and down campaign.
